Technology experts and data scientists at Appriss recently conducted a study that aimed to assess the quality of the incarceration data collected by Appriss Safety in association with its proprietary automated victim notification service, Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE). Data was compared to incarceration data collected by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) Annual Survey of Jails (ASJ). The study’s sampling procedure resulted in 878 jurisdictions, representing 2,750 jurisdictions nationwide. Appriss worked closely with the BJS, using their methodology, and revealed that the overall estimates of the incarcerated population could be replicated to match ASJ estimated within 0.8% error rate, demonstrating that the company’s real-time incarceration data is “equally comprehensive, reliable and accurate.”
