More Employers are Considering Hiring People with Criminal Records

Survey results from Adecco USA have revealed that companies in many industries are seeking to find qualified candidatesfrom a new pool of talent – those with criminal records. In fact, 35 percent of respondents said they would hire a temporary worker with a criminal conviction if their skill set was applicable to the job. In December, President Trump signed the First Step Act into law, which created a number of reforms, including sentencing reform for people sentenced at the federal level, providing thousands of inmates with job opportunities. Companies must remain compliant with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), which restricts employers from having blanket restrictions against hiring people because of a criminal record, and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), which requires that those declined for positions be provided with a copy of a background check report.
