More than 120 foreign employees were convicted and barred from working in Singapore between 2012 and 2013. That number took a sharp dip in 2014, only to show a rise in cases of foreigners using fake certificates to apply for work passes in 2015. Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has been stressing the importance of early background screening in an effort to eliminate the threat to an organisation’s financial stability and reputation. But with new technologies making the procedure simple and fluid, the benefits of uncovering falsified information far outweighs the arduous process of background screening.
