During the past year there have been many developments in the data protection field in Colombia. In October 2018, Nelson Remolina was appointed as the new Data Protection Delegate, and under his direction, SIC there have been many investigations on the infringement of data protection rules, imposing fines of more than $550,000. Since the start of the new Data Protection Delegate’s term, SIC has imposed fines on many large and renowned companies such as Claro, Directv, Avantel, Falabella Bank and Bancolombia Bank. Another important development is the Attorney General’s Office issuance of Resolution 462 of 2019, which assigned one of its departments the task of monitoring compliance by public authorities with data protection law.
