Background Screeners Have Been Growing Exponentially

Melissa Sorenson, executive director of the North Carolina-based Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS), calls the professional background screening business “relatively young,” but the industry has experienced rapid expansion, with eight out of 10 employers using it for full-time hires. The NAPBS membership has grown by more than 110 members in 2018, with the industry pulling in $3 billion in the United States in just one year. According to Sorenson, the uptick is due to the increase in seasonal employment and the difficulty HR professionals face in gathering the information that is necessary to make informed hires.
