Background checks, when completed properly and thoroughly, help eliminate concerns with current hires, but companies are making common mistakes. Things like not performing background checks on every individual – even those you think you know; skipping the stand-alone background check release or informing a candidate of his or her rights; and not performing an individual assessment on all red flags all can lead to more trouble, if not taken seriously. Companies also should be careful to not rely on social media for background check information and should always consider re-screening employees.
