It can be difficult for supervisors to determine drug use for all employees, but with random drug testing, the guesswork is removed. It is estimated that drug addiction costs businesses and organizations in the United States $81 billion a year due to increased absenteeism, low work quality, decreased productivity, thefts in the workplace, disability claims, and employee illness. But it also can cost a business its reputation should impairment of sales reps, delivery personnel, guards, customer support staff, or anyone else be witnessed by customers and clients.
