What Is Biometric Data?

The use of biometric data, the method of identification that uses unique physical characteristics, has been under fire lately. In a suit settled last month, people in Illinois accused Facebook of breaking the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, which aims to block companies from gathering biometric data from Illinoians without their consent. Facebook agreed to pay $550 million to settle the lawsuit. Countless companies, including PayPal, Amazing, and Bank of America, and even some airports, all are using biometric data to recognize customers and passengers. While useful, biometric data is hackable just like any service with private information and has been determined to present errors 34.7 percent of the time for dark-skinned women.
