Screening, Interviewing and Nanny Background Checks

When beginning the process of hiring a nanny, families should start by verifying the candidate’s identity and addressing history through a Social Security Number check. The next step involves running a national database check, followed by a county check. Other checks that should be considered include credit report, civil records search, driving records, sexual offender list and drug testing. Keep in mind, though, that the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires that when employment is involved, a written release from the employee must be obtained.
