Restrictions on Hiring Personnel with Criminal Histories in the Insurance Industry

To comply with Section 1033, passed as part of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, insurers must determine whether the role of a prospective employee or agent will involve the “business of insurance” and, if so, whether that individual has been convicted of a crime involving dishonesty, breach of trust or a violation of Section 1033.
