Quest Diagnostics Study Finds 16-Year High in Positive Workplace Drug Test Results for 2019

A recent Quest Diagnostics study has revealed that employers saw the highest rate of positive workforce drug test results since 2003, with marijuana topping the charts. It also showed a surge in positive results in the Midwest for cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana, but a decline in positive opioid tests for 2019. There is concern about how the COVID-19 will influence substance use, with Quest Diagnostics observing that COVID-19 may “prove to be an accelerant” on the trend toward overall higher positivity rates. Other sources also have reported concern about opioid use during the pandemic, which can impact recovery from addiction in several ways.
