A new version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, was published in January by the U.S. Citizens and Immigration Services (USCIS). Employers must be using the updated Form I-9 by April 30, 2020. One country was added to the drop-down function in the Country of Issuance field in Section 1, among other minor changes visible only when completing the electronic version of the form. The instructions now clarify who can act as an authorized representative on behalf of an employer and include updated USCIS website addresses, provide clarifications on acceptable documents for Form I-9, and detail an updated process for requesting paper Forms I-9 and an updated DHS Privacy Notice.
