Navigating the Challenges When an Employee is Arrested

Discovering that an employee has been arrested can certainly raise red flags for businesses that have a responsibility to keep the workplace safe. But before an employer should jump to dismiss the employee in question, it is important to understand that there are legal ramifications if an employee is wrongfully let go. Instead, objective research should become a top priority, including understanding the laws and regulations of the state and the employee’s state of residence and consulting legal counsel. Offering support for the employee is a great way to understand whether he or she should be referred to an employee assistance program, legal support or behavioral treatment.
