Thirty-three states and Washington, D.C., currently have authorized the medical use of marijuana, and 11 of those states, as well as Washington, D.C., have legalized the personal use of the drug. Marijuana, mushrooms, and other drug measures won in each of the five states where voters were asked to decide on drug legalization. Adult personal use of marijuana was approved in Arizona, Montana, New Jersey, and South Dakota, and medical use was approved in Mississippi and South Dakota. Each state has created its own respective frameworks. Meanwhile, the state of Oregon asked voters to consider two separate drug reform measures – one that would legalize the medical use of psilocybin and another that would decriminalize small amounts of all drugs.
