Managing Marijuana Use in the Workplace: What’s at Stake for Employers

There is a growing body of evidence about the potential adverse effects of marijuana on health. In fact, one study found that cannabis users were 22 percent more likely to visit emergency rooms for any cause than those who didn’t use marijuana. Some of the more serious psychiatric disorders include an increased risk of schizophrenia, sleep disturbance and anxiety and aggressiveness in children born to women who used marijuana during pregnancy. Positivity in workforce marijuana drug tests is at record highs, which has the potential to raise safety risks for the workforce, customers and the community.
