Legal Pot a Quandary for Company Drug Screens

In early October, President Joe Biden issued an executive order aimed at reshaping how the federal government treats cannabis. The order grants a pardon for all prior federal offenses of simple marijuana possession. He has also announced a review of how cannabis is classified under federal law. Employers across the country are considering how easing up on testing for a legal drug might help them address the labor shortage. Some companies, like Amazon, have announced that a positive test for marijuana use would no longer disqualify people from jobs that are not regulated by the U.S. Department of Transportation, while others will treat the substance like alcohol, looking rather at impairment.
