Is There a Standard Background Checking Process for Caregivers?

Many people believe that there is one database that provides information during a background screening, but this is not true. Details of a background check, including on criminal convictions, are pulled from public and private databases at the federal, state and county levels. Hundreds of databases, which use several different reporting systems and updating schedules, are governed by a variety of laws, including, most importantly, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). This law requires employers to follow a certain process for “employment purpose” background screenings and includes regulations on the hiring and adverse action process.
