How Your Employee Drug Testing Program Can Make You Money

Some employers will argue that it costs too much to set up a screening program and to manage it daily, but they are likely missing out on a lot of money. Drug testing offers a long list of benefits, including a decrease in absenteeism, reduced tardiness, reduced theft, increased morale, decreased injuries on the job, and the prevention of illegal drug users and problem drinkers from approaching the workplace for a position. But there is an additional way to make money by conducting an employee drug testing program: rebuttable presumption laws. There are currently 19 states that have enacted legislation that provides that intoxication will be “presumed” if an employer can show the required testing rules were followed following an injury.
