FTC Sends Warning Letters to Data Brokers on Compliance

The Federal Trade Commission sent warning letters to 13 data brokers reminding them to comply with the Protecting Americans’ Data from Foreign Adversaries Act (PADFA), which bars selling or transferring U.S. individuals’ sensitive personal data to foreign adversary countries such as China or Russia. The letters urge companies to review their practices and adjust data sharing, noting potential civil penalties of up to about $53,000 per violation.
