First Review of the GDPR: Four Findings After Four Months

With more than four months behind the enforcement of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), it is important to assess how things are going both in the European Union (EU) and in the rest of the world. According to the Commission nationale de linformatique et des liberts de France (CNIL), statistics are showing that organizations in France and throughout Europe are embracing GDPR compliance and the United Kingdoms Information Commissioners Office (ICO) didnt wait long to issue its first sanction. In other news, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) announced that it has met to discuss several details, including the European Union-Japan adequacy decision and the adoption of guidelines on the GDPRs territorial scope. And finally, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) stressed the importance of maintaining Canadas adequacy status within the European Union (EU).
