Drug Testing Guidance After COVID-19

The increase in people working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic has also led to an increased amount of cannabis consumption. In some states where marijuana is legal, dispensaries are even considered “essential” and have remained open throughout the shutdown. But all of this had led to confusion when it comes to pre-employment drug testing. Although some testing facilities remain open, most employers are finding ways to adapt language to their hiring agreements that allows them to reserve the right to conduct additional post-hire background checks once resources become available again. Those who have found themselves unemployed and re-entering the workforce should assume a drug test will be required, so a THC detox may be necessary for employment.
