Drug Test Adulterants: Everything You Should Know

Drug tests are conducted for various reasons, but when an individual thinks he or she might fail the screening, they often turn to drug test adulterants. These substances, which often fail, are substances or methods that trick a drug test into producing a false negative. These include over-diluting urine by either ingesting a large amount of water or directly diluting the urine; using substitute urine from another person or synthetic urine; and trying to delay the test until the drug is no longer in his or her system. Common adulterants that often are added to urine include water, eye drops, baking soda, bleach, and detergent, while other individuals drink cranberry juice to try to dilute their urine before the testing occurs.
