Drug Screening Nixed for some Buncombe County Jobs; Random Testing Gone Altogether

Random drug testing and some pre-hire screenings have been barred by the county of Buncombe in North Carolina. Potential employees who will be driving for the job will still be subjected to drug testing. Tests will also continue to be conducted based on “reasonable suspicion” and post-accident with injury and/or property damage situations. The decision is in line with many others across the country in response to marijuana legislation. The county’s move is intended to foster a more equitable workplace while increasing its applicant pool and still maintaining a drug-free workplace.
