Drug Overdoses in 2021 at Highest Level on Record According to CDC, Driven by Opioids

According to new data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), drug overdoses in 2021 reached the highest levels on record at an estimated 107,622. Sixty-six percent of overdose deaths in 2021 involved synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, which, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is 50 times more potent than heroin.
