Some branches of the military are considering modernizing their drug testing policies. The Navy, for instance, is addressing the federal legalization of cannabis use by considering the removal of marijuana from its zero-tolerance drug policy. Current policies across all armed services ban cannabis – including CBD – use while serving, and all branches must adhere to Mandatory Guidelines for Federal Workplace Drug Testing Programs enacted by the Department of Health and Human Services. Service members who fail a drug test may face career-ending outcomes.
