Does Getting Arrested at a Protest Show up on an Employee Background Check?

As a result of country-wide protesting, there have been numerous arrests of individuals for minor offenses such as being out past city-wide curfews and obstructing traffic. Although many of the cases will be thrown out, some will not, and the arrest has the potential to affect that person’s employment for years to come. Elizabeth Mclean, general counsel for GoodHire, said that background checks will include arrests that didn’t lead to convictions, but it will be up to the employer to decide if it will affect the hiring decision. Some, she said, will be willing to overlook minor infractions, but others, like those in banking, have zero-tolerance policies when it comes to criminal activity.
