DATA PROTECTION AND PRIVACY IN INDONESIA

Information from AKSET Law provides guidance on data protection and privacy in Indonesia, such as the fact that there is no dedicated national data protection authority that oversees personal data protection in the country. However, the Minister of Communications and Informatics (MCI) is responsible for ensuring compliance and is authorized to organize and coordinate with governments, local authorities and other entities regarding data breach notification, PII protection, and to help the Indonesian police and prosecutors to initiate criminal proceedings for non-compliance.
