dAccording to the 2018 annual results of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), 53.2 million people aged 12 or older – or 19.4 percent of the population – used illicit drugs. The percentage was higher than in 2015 and 2016, but was similar to 2017. Marijuana was the most used drug with misuse of prescription drugs in second and cocaine in third. An increase in substance abuse due to the pandemic is also expected.
