Changes to Pre-Employment Checks on Right to Work in the UK

The Home Office’s UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) department recently confirmed upcoming changes to the way in which employers will be able to check a prospective employee’s right to work in the UK after April 6, 2022. Employers will no longer be permitted to accept some physical documents as evidence of right to work. This includes Biometric Residence Permits (BRP), which are Biometric Residence Cards issued to family members of EEA migrants under the EU Settlement Scheme and Frontier Worker Permits for EEA migrants. Employers will be expected to use the free UKVI online checking tool. While it may be seen as a step forward, removing the choice of checking the BRP removes flexibility. What other concerns are there regarding this issue?
