Care.com Comes Under Fire for Background Check Policies

Care.com has been facing lawsuits and bad press, according to a Wall Street Journal expose, which highlighted the company’s vetting policies. The article detailed common dangerous situations in which caregivers claim to be state-licensed when they aren’t. About nine instances also were found regarding past caregivers involving theft, child abuse, sexual assault, and murder. Although the website states that it does “monitor site interactions and do some preliminary screening on members to promote a safe community,” it does not conduct background checks on caregivers or verify state licensing and other credentials.
