The Government of Canada and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have enhanced public safety measures by offering a digitized biometrics records solution. The nationwide Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), a product of Gemalto, will allow for faster and more accurate criminal and civil identity checks. Canada’s Department of National Defence (DND) has modernized its capabilities with a central, digital repository, as well as a system that will collect, process, enroll and verify the biometric data for enrollment/hiring, security clearances and policing. Booking stations across the country will collect information and feed it to the DND’s AFIS before submitting it to the RCMP central AFIS.
