Ban the What?

Ban the Box laws now exist in more than 35 states and more than 150 cities and counties, according to the National Employment Law Project (NELP). These laws require employers to consider a job candidate’s qualifications first, before asking about past convictions. Maryland has become the latest state to enact a law that requires private employers with more than 15 employees to ask about an applicant’s criminal history before the first face-to-face interview.
