Background Screening Elements That Should Be Included in a Background Check for a Caregiver

It can be tempting for a parent to skip over certain components of the background screening process on a potential caregiver, but for the safety and wellbeing of the household, there is certain information should always be gathered. While there is no standard background screening for caregivers, parents should avoid instant checks, which can often yield inaccurate or incomplete results. A comprehensive background screening should include a Social Security number trace, a criminal conviction search, a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check and a National Sexual Offender Registry Database scan. Additional checks may include education verification, professional license verification, reference checks, civil records checks, a check of child abuse and neglect records, a bankruptcy records search, national wants and warrants search, a civil restraining order search and a credit check.
