Avoid the Legal Consequences of Social Media Screening

Attorney and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) compliance analyst for GoodHire Elizabeth McLean has shared that cyber vetting introduces employers to great risks, including various laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Pregnancy Discrimination Act. She points out that, in 2012, Facebook reported that 83 million accounts on its social media site were fake. And for those accounts that are real, it is common for people to intentionally post misinformation about themselves or their views. McLean advises employers to become familiar with all FCRA laws, as well as any state laws that further restrict information that can be used in the application process.
