Applicant’s Disclosure of Armed Robbery Conviction Protected by Law, 3rd Circuit Says

The U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals held that trucking company Central Transport violated Pennsylvania’s ban-the-box/Criminal History Record Information Act by rejecting a job applicant after he voluntarily disclosed a 15-year-old armed robbery conviction without relating it to the job or providing the required written notice. The ruling confirms that the law’s protections apply regardless of how criminal history is obtained and limits how employers use conviction information in hiring.
