According to a survey conducted by The Harris Poll, 17 percent – or 1,003 adults – reported “heavy drinking” in the past 30 days, defined as having had two heavy drinking days in a single week at least twice in the previous 30 days. A separate study by the Rand Corp. found the frequency of alcohol consumption in the U.S. rose 14 percent compared with before the pandemic, with the stress of world events and anxiety about the future a likely causes.
