Trump Finalizing Opioid Testing Rule for Transportation Workers

Railroad engineers, pilots, air traffic controllers and truck drivers could soon be tested for opioids as part of required drug and alcohol testing. The Trump administration proposal is undergoing final review. The Department of Transportation currently administers a five-panel drug test, which includes marijuana, cocaine and PCP for safety-sensitive transportation workers. The proposed rule is in response to the country’s opioid crisis, which is estimated to have affected 11.9 million Americans in 2016.
