What Should I Do If I Suspect an Employee is Taking Drugs?

Employee use of drugs not only affects the individual, but presents significant problems to employees, clients, civilians, and the workplace and business. Signs of drug use include sudden tardies and absences, and strange behaviors that include mood swings, irritability, aggression, and inappropriate advances. Observations should be written down, such as speech changes, strange odors, eye changes, etc., and documentation should include a specific time, date, and situation. Compare notes with others who have been requested to make observations, as well, and plan to meet with the employee together in a non-confrontational way.
