A candidate has certain rights when a background check is being conducted, but there are several myths surrounding the process that causes significant worry for new employees. Employees can often become leery of the private information being revealed during the background check process, but legitimate screening companies are compliant with all laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and written consent must be given before the process begins. Background checks reveal professional activity as it relates to employment, education, legal, dictatorship, media, and social media, and CV information, but candidates have control over which information is verified. As such, any information found during the process can be deleted at the request of the candidate.
