The Canadian Model takes a conservative stance on point‑of‑collection testing (POCT), emphasizing that devices must be Health Canada or FDA-approved, validated for accuracy, aligned with program cut‑offs, and used only for immediate risk assessment—not as a substitute for lab testing. Because POCT can produce false positives and false negatives, all samples should still be lab‑confirmed. POCT is recommended only for post‑incident, reasonable cause, and follow‑up testing, not for routine or pre-employment scenarios.
