In Switzerland, data privacy is regulated by the Federal Act on Data Protection and the Ordinance to the Federal Act on Data Protection. The Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) is in charge of supervising federal and private bodies and advising on data privacy law, as well as on technical aspects of data security. It maintains and publishes the Register for Data Files. In conflict situations between private bodies or between private persons and federal bodies, it can act as a mediator. It can also comment on draft federal legislation that may have an impact on data privacy.
