Reddit has begun requiring UK users to verify their age before accessing mature content, in compliance with the UK’s Online Safety Act. Users must submit a selfie or government-issued ID via the third-party provider Persona. Reddit itself does not retain the images and only stores the user’s age verification status and birthdate. Users under 18 will be blocked from viewing explicit, self-harm, hate, or violent content. Failure to comply with UK rules may result in significant fines.
