More Workers are Testing Positive for Marijuana – And Cheating on Drug Screens

The increase in marijuana legalization has brought with it a rise in U.S. workers testing positive for the substance. Specifically, marijuana positivity has increased 4.5% in 2023, up from 4.3% in 2022 and 3.1% in 2019, according to Quest Diagnostics. There has also been a significant rise in tampering with workplace drug tests through either replacing urine specimens with someone else’s or submitting invalid specimens. Marijuana use is expected to continue to rise with more and more laws making it legally acceptable across the country.
