An Iowa employer’s drug and alcohol testing obligations do not end with a written policy. The Iowa Court of Appeals recently reviewed an employer’s drug testing policy and procedures, and the findings should serve as a reminder that employers must follow their policy each time they want to test, be aware of procedures related to that policy, and complete the required training. The review included random or unannounced drug testing, how an employer selects which employees will be tested, supervisor training, and policy language concerning discipline.
