A Randstad report reveals that about 60 percent of women never negotiate their pay, an easily avoidable mistake that many professionals make. But doing so is expected by business leaders and can demonstrate that a woman knows her professional value. According to the Center for American Progress, women can expect to earn 82 cents to every dollar earned by men and there is an even bigger wage gap for women of color. Women should take time to prepare before negotiating their salary by evaluating how a job offer compares to a current position, understanding the benefits and perks that will be offered, consulting current salary guides and being prepared to counteroffer with evidence.
