Hair Testing More Reliable for Detecting Illegal Drug Use, HHS Panel Told

A recent Drug Testing Advisory Board meeting highlighted evidence suggesting hair drug testing may be more reliable than urine testing for detecting illegal drug use, especially in trucking. Presenters noted hair tests offer a longer detection window, are harder to adulterate, and have consistently identified more drug users than urine screens in industry data. Although hair testing isn’t yet federally approved to replace urine testing, support is growing for its inclusion.
