FBI Warning: Crooks are Using Deepfakes to Apply to Remote Tech Jobs

According to a warning issued by the FBI, scammers and criminals are using deepfakes and stolen personally identifiable information during online interviews for remote roles, particularly in technology-related fields. Reports to the agency’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) have included the use of voice deepfakes during online interviews with potential applicants, but victims have also noticed visual inconsistencies. Complaints also described the use of stolen Personally Identifiable Information (PII) to apply for these remote positions.
