Employers Struggling with Soaring Candidate Deception

Employers are facing a surge in candidate deception, including identity fraud, falsified employment histories, fabricated education credentials, undisclosed convictions, and AI-generated resumes or deepfake interviews. Around 90 percent of companies in EMEA detect discrepancies during pre-employment screenings, with 64 percent flagging employment history issues and 47 percent spotting education fraud. Worryingly, 22 percent find undisclosed criminal records. Despite these risks, just 60 percent conduct identity checks. HR teams urgently need enhanced screening protocols and better use of verification tools.
