Credit Reporting Agencies are Failing Human Trafficking Survivors

The Debt Bondage Repair Act, effective in 2021, has not done much to provide relief for victims of human trafficking. Credit reporting agencies do not appear to have figured out how to provide this legally required service. The Act requires document submission to each of the agencies, big and small, and each agency can set its own requirements for proof of identity. The burden of each of these tedious and time-consuming steps falls to the survivor, many of whom are in safehouses and don’t have access to certain documents and information.
