The U.S. Department of Transportation warned that transportation workers cannot excuse a positive drug test by claiming they used medical marijuana or hemp products. The agency reminded substance-abuse professionals that federal rules require them to treat a verified positive THC test as a violation, regardless of medical use or hemp-derived products that may contain THC. The notice reiterates existing regulations governing safety-sensitive jobs—such as pilots, truck drivers, and train operators — where federal drug-testing policies still prohibit marijuana use.
